Reportedly, Emperor Of Sand moved 43,000 albums in its initial week out. That makes it Mastodon's biggest selling first week debut, and it's the band's third top 10 release—it stopped at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. (via Billboard)

What's more, 41,000 of those 43,000 albums were “traditional album sales” (physical units and/or full album downloads), proving that metal fans are doing their part in keeping full-length album releases relevant.

As covered by Metal Sucks, that means Mastodon's Emperor Of Sand beat out Drake's More Life in pure sales. What a trip! Emperor Of Sand was the top-selling album of the week (No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart).

Congrats to Mastadon—and to metalheads everywhere!
