2020 hasn’t exactly been the year Mayday Parade were hoping for. On July 20, the band announced that their forthcoming fall tour with Grayscale and Point North has been canceled due to coronavirus. All ticketholders for the tour will receive full refunds.

“Unfortunately we had to make the hard decision to cancel our fall tour,” the band say. “Full refunds will be available for all purchased tickets.”

As a way to make up for the canceled tour, Mayday Parade dropped their new the Beatles cover on July 21. The socially-distant video features Mayday Parade as well as some other familiar faces. Knuckle Puck’s Joe Taylor, the Maine’s John O’Callaghan and We The Kings’ Travis Clark have all taken part in the cover.

As well, Grayscale members Collin Walsh, Dallas Molster and Nick Veno also appear in the video. rationale.‘s Lambton, formerly of Real Friends, also joins his fellow musicians for the “I Want To Hold Your Hand” cover. Lambton and his Real Friend bandmates mutually parted ways back in February.

The video offers a fresh take on a the Beatles classic while delivering an entertaining video for fans that was safely shot and created. Mayday Parade took to social media to explain the decision to cover “I Want To Hold Your Hand.”

“We wanted to take advantage of the extra time and record a cover for all of you,” they tweet. “‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ is one of the catchiest songs we could think of and it was a real pleasure to put this together with some of our good friends!”

All of the band members featured in the cover have toured or collaborated together in the past. Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders recently joined Knuckle Puck for their single “Breathe.” As well, Lambton is also featured on Knuckle Puck’s 2015 song “Evergreen.”

Both the Maine and Mayday Parade have toured together various times over the years. More recently, they toured together for Sad Summer Fest 2019. Sanders is also featured on the Maine’s cover of “Steal My Sunshine.”
