McDonald’s unveiling spicy items that pay homage to throwback sandwich

McDonald’s is throwing it back by allegedly launching new spicy chicken items that pay homage to a beloved item. 

The restaurant chain is allegedly gearing up to launch two new items, the Spicy BBQ Sandwich and Spicy BBQ Glazed Tenders in September, according to leaked documents that were reported by Business Insider.

“Hold tight, because McDonald’s is bringing the heat starting in September,” a McDonald’s representative said in an email to Business Insider.

If you remember back in 2006, McDonald’s got rid of its Hot ‘N Spicy chicken sandwich because they thought it just might be too spicy. They tried to bring it back in a toned-down version in 2013, but it was short-lived. 

The sandwich apparently had some die-hard fans, as a petition was created in 2015 to bring back the sandwich. So apparently, people are pretty into it. 

Other spicy fast-food news

Wendy’s revealed when exactly they will bring back their coveted spicy chicken nuggets so we can all go pig out. 

The entire reason they’re bringing them back is thanks to Chance The Rapper.

“Positive Affirmations for today: I WILL have a good day, I WILL succeed today, Wendy’s WILL bring back spicy nuggets at some point please please Lord let it be today,” the rapper’s tweet read.

Then, Wendy’s quote tweeted it and agreed to bring them back if Twitter could do one thing — like their tweet two million times.

“Y’all keep asking, so here’s your chance. The people in charge say if you guys can get our tweet (this one right here) to 2 Million likes, they will bring SPICY CHICKEN NUGGETS BACK.

Let’s freakin’ do this!” it read.

Two million is a ton of likes, but if anyone could do it, it’d probably end up being the hilarious Wendy’s account. We aren’t the only ones who believed in them, Twitter itself thought so too.

Then, after less than two days, Twitter actually did it.

“THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Spicy Chicken Nuggets are coming back! Y’all are crazy! That took like a day and a half! WHAT?! We don’t know when yet, gotta figure it out, but soon, and ok, LOSING IT RIGHT NOW THIS IS AMAZING!!”

Now, we know when those delicious nuggets will be available in drive-thrus everywhere — August 19. That means we only have to wait 54 more days until we can pig out on one of our favorite fast food items.
