Incredible footage of primal MCR show resurfaces

Very early footage of My Chemical Romance has recently started to get more traction on the internet. The footage, uploaded January of 2017, captures the band playing a 30-minute set inside a small New Jersey venue called Maxwell’s composed of their earlier recordings, primarily from I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love.

After Rocksound resurfaced the rare footage, MCR fans of all ages can now envision what it would be like to see the band in their Bullets era. In fact, My Chemical Romance played this show just three weeks after releasing I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. The band were opening for fellow Jersey pop-punkers, the Lawn Darts.

While the early-capture is remarkable in and of itself, Gerard Way can also be heard shouting out his entire family from the stage, including his grandmother.

“Okay, everybody! We’re My Chemical Romance,” Way says in the video. “And the first song on our new record- like- my mom is here, my grandma’s here my uncle is here…”

Not long after, his grandmother passed away and went on to be the inspiration behind “Helena (So Long & Goodnight).” According to the pinned comment of the video, this was the only time that the Ways’ grandmother saw them play.

“This is the show Gerard tells us about in The Black Parade is Dead!,” the YouTube user says. He said something like ‘We played here before at Maxwell’s and our granny watched us perform for the first and only time.’”
