The rock & roll industry can be a curious place when it comes to collaborations, but some projects seem to form quite naturally. That certainly seems to be the case for the new supergroup Crystal Fairy, which features Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of At The Drive-In/The Mars Volta, Melvins’ frontman Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover, and guitarist/vocalist Teri Gender Bender of Le Butcherettes.

Crystal Fairy announced their formation and the release of a 7” titled Necklace of Divorce, slated to drop later this week, along with the B-side “Drugs On The Bus.” The band will also release its self-titled debut full-length in February 2017 via Rodriguez-Lopez’s own label, Ipecac Recordings.

When discussing how the new group came to be, Terri Gender Bender referred to Le Butcherettes previous touring stint with the Melvins, where her band opened for the heavy rockers, and even featured her on-stage nightly to perform a cover of Bikini Kill’s “Rebel Girl”.

“Omar caught up with us on the Melvins’ tour because he is an admirer. Through the travels, the Melvins and Omar connected as well. Sometimes, Omar and I would fantasize loudly of hopefully being able to form a [group] together. Before we knew it, we were writing music in the studio (both in El Paso and L.A.) and birthed a magical little gem that I am extremely proud to be a part of,” Gender Bender said in a statement via Consequence of Sound.
