Metallica have announced that their first label-independent release will be a live DVD (also to be available on Blu-Ray) titled Quebec Magnetic, set for release December 10. The DVD contains footage from Metallica's 2 Quebec City shows on their 2009 World Magnetic tour.

Metallica is but one artist to have recently gone independent. Earlier this week, Blink-182's Tom DeLonge announced the band's split from Interscope.
