Metallica's Robert Trujillo on his 12-year-old son playing in Korn
Like father, like son!
Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo has spoken out about his 12-year-old son, Tye, playing bass for Korn on their current South American tour.

The elder Trujillo says that young Tye is “very serious” about his opportunity filling in for Korn’s regular bassist, Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu.
In a new interview with Gobo Play (transcription via Metal Injection), Robert looks back on when Tye first took up an instrument, stating that he never specifically directed Tye’s music-making energy.
“I never forced him on music. I always felt that if he wanted to embrace an instrument, great; I’d try to help him with it. So initially, at first, it was drums. And then around that same time, when he was one, he had a little plastic guitar, and he would play it all the time, just strumming it—always strumming it everywhere, to the point where the plastic was worn down.
The Metallica member elaborated on Tye’s earnestness in subbing for Fieldy. In fact, Robert says that he didn’t teach Tye any of the bass parts for Korn tracks! The little Trujillo apparently picked up the low-end parts himself.
“It’s a beautiful thing, ’cause he’s still a 12-year-old, and he still acts wild and crazy, as a twelve-year-old should, but when it comes to music, he’s very focused. And with Korn, it’s funny, because I haven’t shown him anything at all for the Korn stuff—I’ve been too busy and I’ve been out of town a lot—and he’s taking this opportunity very serious.”
Korn previously stated that Fieldy would return on bass when the band comes back for their spring tour dates Stateside.
Looks like Tye is gonna have some awesome stories for his friends at school!
