MGK shares soulful drum cover to honor Nipsey Hussle

Machine Gun Kelly and his recent portrayal of Tommy Lee in Mötley Crüe’s The Dirt saw the rapper spending well over four months learning Lee’s signature drumstick move. In a story with USA Today, MGK revealed that he sought out the help of his “younger brother” to attain those drumming skills.

Now, MGK is taking his work behind the kit and using it to honor late rapper Nipsey Hussle in the best way possible.

On March 31 of this year, Hussle passed away following a shooting in Los Angeles near his clothing store.

The day after his passing, MGK took to Twitter to share a few words on Hussle’s influence.

“haven’t slept. im just up thinking about how i could feel the energy drain from everything when Nipsey died yesterday. the air felt different. fuck man. i’ll never forget the journey of watching him go from the mixtape circuit to becoming Grammy nominated. he gave me hope.”

The Cleveland rapper ended up postponing the release of his first single from his forthcoming album in respect for Hussle’s passing.

“We were dropping first song off the album Friday, but out of respect for Nip, we’re gonna stay silent this week,” MGK says in a tweet. “Respect to @carlchery for inspiring that action.”

Now, MGK has taken to Instagram to post a tribute to the late rapper with a drum cover snippet of Hussle’s “Right Hand 2 God.”
