The well-received 2009 real-time strategy game, Halo Wars, from the now-defunct Ensemble Studios, is getting a sequel as revealed in a surprise announcement today at Gamescom 2015. British developer, Creative Assembly, who are best known for their Total War franchise, will run development alongside 343 Industries.

Halo Wars 2 is expected for a Fall 2016 release and will be available on both XBOX One and Windows 10. Despite a roll-out that led many to believe Microsoft was announcing that Halo 5: Guardians would be available for Windows, the unexpected teaser trailer for Halo Wars 2 was revealed. Furthermore, speaking of Halo 5, Microsoft also announced a Halo-inspired XBOX One console which will be available this October. The limited edition, 1TB beauty is available for pre-order now.
