Midnight Sun had a groundbreaking debut last month. As the first new Twilight book to arrive in 12 years, it went on to sell over one million copies in its first week. Amongst spoilers, reactions and other feedback from readers, however, Linkin Park fans are drawing attention to one particular scene in Midnight Sun.

Fans have begun to share the scene in the new book where Edward and Bella bond over Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory. In the scene, Edward asks Bella which CD she has in her player and she responds with Hybrid Theory. Edward is also familiar with the album and readers later learn that “With You” is Bella’s favorite song.

“What music is in your CD player right now?” I asked as I twisted the keys from the ignition. I’d never trusted myself that close to her while she’d slept, and the unknown teased me.

Her head cocked to the side, and it seemed as though she was trying to remember. “Oh, right,” she said. “It’s Linkin Park. Hybrid Theory.”

Not what I was expecting.

As I pulled the identical CD from my car’s music cache, I tried to imagine what this album meant to her. It didn’t seem to match any of her moods that I’d seen, but then, there was so much I didn’t know.

“Debussy to this?” I wondered.

She stared at the cover, and I could not understand her expression.

“Which is your favorite song?”

“Mmm,” she murmured, still looking at the cover art. “‘With You,’ I think.”

Naturally, the mention of Linkin Park in Midnight Sun has caused many fans to share their thoughts and reactions on social media.

This isn’t the first connection Linkin Park has with the Twilight series. Their song “Leave Out All The Rest” appears on the 2008 film’s soundtrack. Meyer has also previously revealed that she listened to a lot of Linkin Park while writing the popular book series.

Shortly following the success of Midnight Sun, Meyer confirmed that she plans to write two more books in the series.

“There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write,” she shared. “I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it’s there. I am not ready to do that right now, I want to do something brand new.”

As well, this Twilight actor says he would reprise his role “in a heartbeat” if more films happen in the future.
