Here’s how Hilary Duff inspired Miley Cyrus to try out for ‘Hannah Montana’

Miley Cyrus and Hilary Duff share a mutual experience working with Disney on TV shows and music and they’re showing some mutual respect for each other in a heartwarming interaction.

Cyrus took to her Instagram live talk show Bright Minded: Live With Miley Cyrus where she dishes how Duff was her biggest inspiration to auditioning for Disney.

The two Disney stars joined up over video chat when Cyrus gave her respects for Duff.

“I wanted to say that I came to your concert when I was 11 and I told you that I wore a plaid skirt out to the show because you wore a plaid skirt and Uggs,” Cyrus recalls. “And from the nosebleed seats I was hoping you would notice me and be like, ‘Hey girl, nice Uggs!’ I don’t know what I was thinking, but I was obsessed with your t-shirt. It was bedazzled and said ‘Nashville,’ and I immediately went and bought a bedazzler and I stayed up all night jeweling everything that I owned.”

Further, she talks about how Duff was the “only reason” she wanted to do her Disney audition in the first place.

“And then I flew to L.A., like, almost immediately so I could audition for Disney and I ended up getting the role,” she continues. “But the only reason I wanted it was so I could do whatever you did. And so really, I don’t think I gave a sh*t about being an actress or a singer. I just wanted to copy you no matter what.”

For Duff, the respect is mutual and she gives some thoughtful words about Cyrus and what she’s been able to do in her career.

“First of all, you’re so sweet and I feel like I’ve known you for such a long time,” says Duff. “And just to hear you say that, I feel like you have been such a bright light and you have made so many choices that have been so bold and you’re an inspiration to me and to all of us. And you continue to be.”

“So I can’t even believe what you’re saying to me,” Duff continues. “It’s so sweet and so kind, but really, I think that I totally look to you for inspiration on how to be cool and what to wear and what you’re doing and all of this shit.”

Duff starred as Lizzy McGuire from 2001 to 2004 and while the show’s been done for over a decade, it looked promising to be making a comeback.

Earlier this year, the Lizzie McGuire reboot was put on hold following the firing of original series creator and revival showrunner Terri Minsky.

Disney spokesperson spoke about the details in an exclusive with Variety.

“Fans have a sentimental attachment to ‘Lizzie McGuire’ and high expectations for a new series,” the Disney spokesperson says. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”

Disney allegedly wants it to appeal to both kids and adults. Duff opened up about returning to the role of Lizzie McGuire with Entertainment Tonight, explaining part of the perks is delving into the same challenges she experiences in real-life.

“That was part of the draw for me for coming back was the struggles that I feel as a 30-year-old,” Duff says.

“She has gained a lot of confidence and she has a really cool career,” Duff continued. “She’s still going to be faced with challenging things, where, in middle school, those challenging things seemed simple and funny but relatable at the time. Now, in your 30s, it’s gonna be the same way but slightly heavier. [She’ll have] slightly bigger things to deal with.”
