Morrissey to release new album, tour in 2014

Morrissey announced plans today to continue work on his tenth album, expected to arrive later this year, after signing to Capitol Music Group's Harvest Records.

Though the release has long been in the works, it was stalled while the singer searched for a suitable label home, pursued other ventures, and battled with illness. The as-yet-untitled album will serve as a followup 2009's Years Of Refusal.

Recording will take place later this month in France with producer Joe Chiccarelli and, per usual, will feature Morrissey's backing band.

Following a year plagued with postponements, cancelations, illness, and mishaps, this second bit of news is surely a welcome one for Moz fans: the former Smiths frontman is also expected to announce tour dates for 2014 very soon. It's been over ten months since he last hit the road.

Morrissey released his first memoir, simply titled Autobiogaphy, late last year, to huge success, recently prompting the him to announce a debut novel as well. A release date for the book has not been set, and, with album and tour plans now in place, it could be a ways off.

More Morrissey news is expected to pour in as recording gets underway, so we'll be sure to keep you updated. Until then, check out a video of the singer's most recent live appearance, last month at a Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway:
