Various biopics and documentaries about music legends have been released over the years. More recently, Black Sabbath‘s Ozzy Osbourne filmed a documentary that depicts his life and current battle with Parkinson’s disease. The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne will air on A&E later this summer.

As well, let’s not forget about 2019’s wildly successful biopics Bohemian Rhapsody which is about Queen‘s Freddie Mercury and Rocketman which is about Elton John.

Now, it is Lemmy’s turn to return to the movie spotlight. The Hollywood Reporter reports that a biopic is in the works for the late singer who passed away at the age of 70. Called Lemmy, the upcoming film is set to be directed by Greg Olliver. Olliver spent three years following Motörhead and Lemmy around for a 2010 documentary with the same name.

The film will reportedly cover Lemmy’s childhood in England and his time as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix and a member of Hawkwind. As well, the film will follow Lemmy’s iconic 40-year run as the frontman of Motörhead.

Casting for Lemmy has not begun as of yet. The film is scheduled to begin production sometime in 2021. Motörhead’s manager Todd Singerman and Steffan Chirazi will be executive producers on the project.

As Olliver reveals to The Hollywood Reporter, the biopic has been in the works since 2013. The film will also include Motörhead’s Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee.

“Everything you’ve heard about Lemmy is probably true,” Olliver says. “Not because he was embracing rock n’ roll clichés, but because he was creating them. Marlboro Reds and Jack Daniel’s for breakfast, speed for dinner, all true. But behind that steely-eyed façade of rock n’ roll was also a compelling, complicated and lion-hearted man who stayed the course and never gave up playing the music that made him happy. We’ve been carefully developing this biopic since 2013, making sure to stay true to Lemmy, Motörhead band members Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee, and all the other folks that played important roles in Lemmy’s life. This will be a film they’ll be proud of.”

Prior to his death from cancer in 2015, Lemmy said that he would want James Bond actor Roger Moore to play him in a biopic.

“A film about my life? Roger Moore,” Lemmy said. “He’s probably a bit old to take on such an iconic hellraiser.”

Unfortunately, Moore passed away in 2017 after battling liver cancer.
