According to a study by Recommend.ly, musician and band pages on Facebook garner the most fans, surpassing those of runners-up actors and directors by an average of about 1,000.

The study used a sample of 5.76 million Facebook Pages and observed behaviors of both the pages and the people who like them.

It also found that musician page content tends to be photo-heavy and that musicians are more likely to upload video than other types of brands (including communities, politicians, companies and local businesses).

Well before this study showed us the success of Facebook pages, we've known they work well by, for instance, integrating music players and tour dates and putting everything together in one, relatively clean and navigable space. Often, band Facebook pages are a primary point of reference for information.

As musicians with band pages and as fans who “like” them, how important do you think a musician's Facebook presence is?
