More on the My Chemical Romance return

Rumors of a My Chemical Romance reunion have run rampant since the emo staples disbanded in 2013. Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman even revealed he attempted to get the band back together for the tour’s 25th anniversary shows to no avail.

However, one rumor took major traction thanks to Joe Jonas. Yes, the Jonas Brother member claimed to have heard the band rehearsing.

The brothers appeared on the KISS FM Breakfast Show June 7 to discuss their new album, but during the interview, Joe Jonas dished some dirt that is definitely toying with our emotions. Joe claims that while they were rehearsing in New York, MCR were apparently there rehearsing right next to them.

“I’ve got some dirt. My Chemical Romance apparently were rehearsing next to us in New York recently, which I thought they broke up, so I don’t know.”

With Joe Jonas and Hoppus getting our hopes up, Frank Iero finally addressed the rumor nearly a month later. Iero squashed the rumors in an interview with the Asbury Park Press ahead of the Atlantic City Warped Tour. “I survived a bus accident, so anything is possible,” Iero said.

When asked about My Chemical Romance, Iero denied Joe’s report of the shared practice space. While Iero denied that anything was currently in the works, he left the door cracked for a victory lap someday.

Then finally, they said it would never happen, and then it did. On Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. ET, activity began on a new Instagram account for My Chemical Romance. The posts surfaced shortly after fans began speculating Frank Iero’s Oct. 30 Instagram post was about more than the weather.

“it’s reported that it’s going to rain in new jersey tomorrow, washing out all Halloween festivities…” Iero posted. “Guess we’re gonna have to find something else to do.”

At 2 p.m. ET on Oct. 31, the band’s Facebook page changed their profile picture to a black candle.

The same image surfaced on their Instagram stories for the new account, @mychemicalromance but with “ex. 1: Clarity” added to the corner. The band followed up the posts with three more images, instead of Clarity, they used Courage, Sacrifice and Devotion. They then posted a fifth image with their initials, pulling together the four other images as part of the design.

In the midst of the Instagram teasing, sources confirmed with AltPress that a secret event was being held at Hot Topic Hollywood where black candles and red roses are adorning the room. There is signage currently covered that is still to be revealed. Attendees have also received black boxes that they aren’t permitted to open just yet, seen below.

HOT TOPIC MCR

At exactly 3 p.m. ET, the band ended the hour of speculation by posting to their Instagram page, “Like Phantoms Forever…Tickets on Sale Friday 11/1/19 at 12:00 PM Pacific”

Unlike the 2016 speculation coupled with the band’s social media postings that ended up being a The Black Parade rerelease, they’re finally back. With the return post, they shared a ticket link for their show being held Dec. 20 at Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles.

Gerard Way posted the same statue image to his Instagram, writing “California 2019.” Iero followed it up with the same followed by Mikey Way echoing it as well. Toro posted the same image and caption a few hours later at 6:53 p.m. ET.

This will mark their first show since breaking up March 22, 2013. After releasing their last album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, on Nov. 22, 2010, MCR played what was believed to be their final show May 19, 2012 at Bamboozle in their home state of New Jersey. According to setlist.fm, the band closed out that final set with “Helena,” which you can see below thanks to fan-shot footage.

My Chemical Romance has also launched a new round of merch (the same that reportedly went live too early on Warner’s UK store), featuring return-related text and the images posted to their Instagram story.

The attendees at the Hot Topic event all received tickets for the “MCR Return,” which you can view photos here courtesy of Sleeping With Sirens guitarist Nick Martin.

A few hours after the reveal, the band took to social media to thank fans for the warm welcome.

“It is truly unbelievable to us the happiness we have experienced over the past two days. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for the warm welcome back. We truly did not expect this. See you soon. Xoxo, MCR.”
