Mikey Way unveils new picks ahead of My Chemical Romance reunion

We’re now only a day out from the My Chemical Romance return. This means that hopefully, more and more details of the performance and My Chem’s plans as a whole are unveiled. Well, bassist Mikey Way just unveiled something regarding the performance, albeit a very small part.

Mikey Way took to Instagram last night to show off his picks for the upcoming gig tomorrow night.

My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way posted a picture of his bass picks last night. They’re white and feature the iconic text “Mikey Fuckin Way” in black. Check them out below.

The caption reads “I’m fuckin ready!” The bag of picks is rather large and we don’t expect Mikey to break/fly through them in one night so hopefully, some lucky fans can get a cool piece of memorabilia from a night I’m sure they’ll never forget.

The immediately sold out My Chemical Romance reunion is tomorrow Dec. 20 at The Shrine in Los Angeles, CA.

More My Chemical Romance

What will My Chemical Romance sound like in 2019? Well, the world is about to find out tomorrow night. But 8 years ago, the band and the world had a much different thought.

In an unearthed interview from 2011, My Chemical Romance is asked what they’ll sound like in 2019 and they (and us) predicted more records after Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous KilljoysHow wrong we all were.

In a 2011 interview with Warner Music Germany, My Chemical Romance is asked what they will sound like in 2019.

“What will we sound like in 2019,” frontman Gerard Way says. “Because I did think about that when we were gonna start saying that this [Danger Days] was set in 2019. Because I was definitely like, well this isn’t what we’d sound like in 2019. It’s a guess. I don’t know.”

Guitarist Frank Iero then chides in and jokes about how in 2019 you no longer hear music, you just plug in and experience it. We have no idea if we truly want to experience the subject matter of My Chemical Romance songs.

“It’s hard to say,” Way continues. “We take a long time to make records and I’m actually outwardly proud of that. I don’t think that will ever change. But because of that, I think the fans of the band and other people that listen to it they get a high level of quality from that.”

Gerard Way then jokingly wonders what year it is now and Iero answers 2011. “So we might be on, we might be two records ahead at that point,” Way continues. “[…]maybe we’ll be on the sixth. So I don’t know. It’s really hard to say.”

The full interview is below. The question of what they’ll sound like starts at 1:49.

Well, we know now that My Chemical Romance did not make it to their sixth album. However, with the immediately sold out U.S reunion show on Dec. 20, some lucky fans will get to actually hear what they sound like in 2019. The rest of the world will have to wait until 2020.
