My Chemical Romance’s tribute merch is raising COVID-19 relief funds

Plenty of bands have been making face masks for fans to buy and My Chemical Romance are joining the pack now while fundraising for MusiCaresCOVID-19 relief fund.

The “desert screening” masks are made as a tribute to their friend and manager Lauren Valencia who passed away prior to the pandemic while brining money to musicians and industry workers facing a financial crisis over the coronavirus.

The MusiCares COVID-19 relief fund is aiming at helping industry workers impacted by the economic losses during the pandemic. Organizations and bands including Fender and Frank Iero, the Recording Academy, Spotify and others have all donated to the fund.

You can learn more about the fund here.

Now, My Chemical Romance are putting their platform towards helping raise money for the fund. You can read their description and explanation for the masks below. While they aren’t N-95 masks, the band are highlighting the CDC guidelines foMy Chemical Romancer face coverings right now.

“We are living in strange times, alienating times, scary times.  These masks were the brainchild of our beloved Lauren Valencia, who died before this madness, not of the Covid-19 pandemic, but the older evil that is cancer.  We had these masks made to keep you dust-free in the desert, a show that never happened, never will, a protection that then seemed timeworn.  And here we are, with these masks, as though Lauren was prescient or we were unknowingly waiting for the right time……

MCR will donate all proceeds from the sale of this mask to the MusiCares Covid-19 Relief Fund.

Disclaimer: These are fabric face masks. They are not N95 nor anti-microbial. Please use them responsibly. There are guidelines on the CDC website on how to properly utilize fabric masks. Please follow them.”

You can see what the masks look like below. They’ve sold out very quickly but you can see them on the band’s webstore here.
