My Chemical Romance fans think this ‘Locke & Key’ nod is band-inspired

In the new Netflix series Locke & KeyMy Chemical Romance fans believe an alternate version of the band’s name is featured on a poster as My Mild Romance.

This wouldn’t be the first time MCR has been featured in a Netflix series. The first time we noticed was in the first season of The Umbrella Academy, which is based on the comic book of the same name written by frontman Gerard Way

In the first episode of the series frontman Gerard Way‘s name is featured on the back of Vanya Hargreaves (Number 7, Ellen Page) autobiography.

Following a description of praise that is hard to make out, Way’s “words” appear to be as follows:

“An incredible read… a revealing portal into the amazing life of Vayna Hargreeves and the way she has lived… I couldn’t put it down!”

“In the Umbrella Academy show, the critical praise on the back of Vanya’s autobiography was written by Gerard,” Reddit user Ignoramus430 says.

Now, Reddit user Tau_the_kid posted revealing that there is a possible MCR reference in another Netflix original.

In the post, they uploaded an image of the poster the reads “My Mild Romance” with flowers flowing underneath the words. The poster can be seen in the 6th episode of Locke & Key around the nine-minute mark.

Other eagle-eyed viewers spied the band reference and shared it on Twitter.

Reddit user gucciknives even came up with a possible scenario for how the My Mild Romance came to be in a different world.

in an alternate universe where gerard way saw the twin towers fall and decided the world needed some smooth elevator tunes so everyone could just chill out… here’s my mild romance

They also linked to a lo-fi version of MCR’s “Ghost Of You.” If My Mild Romance was a real thing, we also hope it would sound similar to this.

Another Twitter user says that the poster is a reference to MCR because Way is the writer of The Umbrella Academy which is also under the same publishing company as Locke & Key, Dark Horse.

The show also names a myriad of cover bands such as Cover Band of Horses (Band Of Horses,) Nerdvana (Nirvana,) the Novemberists (the Decemberists) and Dead Lyft for Cutie (Death Cab for Cutie.) So, it would make a lot of sense if MY Mild Romance was a tribute to My Chemical Romance.

My Chemical Romance are no stranger to the silver screen as thier music has actually been used in a couple of films.

One of the band’s most popular tracks, “Helena,” was featured in the 2005 horror film House Of WaxThe band’s cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Desolation Row” for Watchmen was also recorded specifically for the film.
