My Chemical Romance return—watch the first song from the reunion show

The moment is finally here: My Chemical Romance have officially returned to the stage for the first time in seven years. The band put those fresh picks and new guitars to good use for the comeback of the decade.

On Halloween, MCR announced their return show for nearly two months away in Los Angeles. Now that wait and emotional preparation is finally over as the band hit the stage at 9:45 p.m. PT to play their first song.

Last night, the band hit the stage to run through their soundcheck, hinting at a potential setlist for the evening. Shortly after, they revealed reunion “jam sessions” began all the way back in 2017, leaving Frank Iero to drop clues right in front of our faces since then.

Now, seven years after leaving closing their set at Bamboozle in May 2012, My Chemical Romance reunited at the Shrine Auditorium. Following Thursday’s opening performance, Iero, Gerard Way, Mikey Way and Ray Toro took to the stage with Jarrod Alexander on drums.

The group kicked things off with a new angel-adorned curtain as audio references to their albums played including “Look alive, sunshine” and the opening dialogue of the “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” video before launching into the Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge track.

More on the last My Chemical Romance show

My Chemical Romance returning to the stage this evening marks the first time since breaking up March 22, 2013. After releasing their last album, Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, on Nov. 22, 2010, MCR played what would be their final show May 19, 2012 at Bamboozle in their home state of New Jersey.

The band wasn’t originally scheduled to play Bamboozle, taking over for blink-182 10 days out after they canceled their festival slot and North American tour. Drummer Travis Barker had to undergo an emergency tonsillectomy, and MCR stepped in to fill the spot, performing before the Foo Fighters on the main stage.

The band played alongside other acts such as A$AP Rocky, Emmure, the All-American Rejects, DJ Pauly D, Iggy Azalea, the Maine, Never Shout Never, Jimmy Eat World, Motion City Soundtrack, Anti-Flag and more.
