The Used on joining MCR tour: “It wouldn’t surprise anyone”

Bert McCracken of the Used might have let slip the final confirmation fans needed about them touring with My Chemical Romance. Earlier this week we reported that McCracken had been dropping major hints regarding the tour.

Now, in an interview with Razor 94.7/104.7 it seems that McCracken has all but confirmed it. He also talks about the Used’s highly anticipated new album.

On Feb. 3 AltPress reported that at their Colorado show last week, McCracken jokingly said they might be opening for My Chemical Romance this fall.

The Used are currently on an intimate club tour, hitting tiny venues to play the smallest rooms they’ve played in more than a decade. McCracken also recently made headlines for being in the studio with Machine Gun Kelly for MGK’s pop-punk album Tickets To My Downfall.

Well now, on three separate occasions, McCracken has reportedly said that they might be opening for My Chemical Romance this fall. Once in Colorado as stated with video evidence, once more in Chicago, IL as reported by Reddit u/XlunalinaX, and now during a Chicago radio interview.

In the video we see McCracken put on a sleeveless flannel and say “I feel like I’m in My Chemical Romance. You can probably catch us on tour with My Chemical Romance in the fall. We’ll see.” Check out the timeline below.

Then in a Razor interview in Chicago before the show, Bert had a few more words to say regarding a My Chemical Romance tour.

“When we first met My Chemical Romance, they were my favorite band. I brought them out all over the world. There’s a reason why they blew up and they’re one of the biggest bands of all time. They’re amazing. Been talking to Gerard and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see The Used on that tour,” McCracken says before jokingly chiming in with, “I’m not saying… I’m joking. Come on, you know me, I’m a kidder.”

Then, later on, that night, he reportedly joked again.

So I was just at The Used show in Chicago and he hinted VERY heavily that they’re going to be touring with MCR from r/MyChemicalRomance

This would now be three times that Bert McCracken has mentioned this MCR tour. Either he’s just trolling all of us or this could really be happening.

Far be it from us to assume that McCracken is not joking but if that’s true, it would be one hell of a show. The Used and My Chemical Romance have toured together before. In 2005, the two played a headlining tour with Killswitch Engage known as Taste of Chaos. That same year, the Used and My Chemical Romance collaborated on the classic “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie.

Speaking of the Used’s highly anticipated upcoming album, Bert said the name would be Paradise Lost. The last new music we received from the Used was “Blow Me” back in December. The band tried a bunch of new stuff for the record and had to basically cut the number of songs in half.

“We had about 30 songs finished and I think there’s only 15 on the record so we’ll have a really cool B-Sides record coming out hopefully later this year, McCracken says. “We wanted the record to kinda showcase the different elements within the studio. Like some of the songs sound straight live like you would be hearing them from the stage. And some of the songs are kind of back to the first and second record style of production where it’s like some of the sounds are full production, its full like you’re in a little world of your own inside these songs.”

McCracken also described the title track of the record which is to be released as a single very soon.

“I wrote it in a really kind of horrible moment, a violent moment, an extreme moment. But you captured it and so you have that feeling, you have that little kind of capsule of that moment kind of ready, locked and loaded, whenever you want to pull it out, where ever you want to put it. And if it’s good, it really does, you can read it five or six years later and be like okay I still feel that. I still feel that from where it came from.”

We’ll keep our fingers and toes crossed that this news is true, but, given how secretive every single announcement that My Chemical Romance had done thus far, we doubt they would be happy with McCracken just dropping that little fun fact about their fall tour. Only time will tell. Given that My Chemical Romance’s US tour completely sold out in about 6 hours, we hope you got tickets.
