My Chemical Romance referenced on 'Last Week Tonight With John Oliver'

Last night, during one of his signature rants about America's mounting student debt problem, Last Week Tonight host John Oliver offhandedly referenced My Chemical Romance.

Though he neglected to mention them by name, Oliver flashed a slide of the group while discussing the predatory practices of for-profit universities, proclaiming “they are told to hit people's pain points,” and adding “the only professionals who should be doing that are dominatrixes or emo bands.”

My Chemical Romance, of course, parted ways last year, and new projects from former members have been materializing in the months since. While many would argue against simply pegging them an “emo” band, the group were also referenced in an episode of South Park last fall, revolving around the term.
