Back in February, Neck Deep announced their new album All Distortions Are Intentional with the incredible promotional journey that was Sonderland. After that, they dropped their first single “Lowlife.”

A few weeks later, Ben Barlow put on a sweet cowboy hat and made a call for help. The singer was asking for fan submissions to be in the new music video for the unreleased track “When You Know.” Last Friday, we got to hear a portion of the new track and the news of the release date. Hallelujah, it’s today, April 13.

The video features a bunch of people representing their favorite lyrics. The video includes some scene icons such as Silverstein‘s Shane Told and Simple Plan‘s Pierre Bouvier. For the techy fans, Neck Deep’s new video also features some prominent Rooster Teeth members. Alex Costello from ROAM also makes a brief cameo as do Derek DiScanio and Ryan Scott Graham from State Champs and Jake Wilson from Between You & Me.

“When You Know” is a wonderful addition to the classic love song category with its catchy melody and intimate lyrics. If that’s not your thing, well, the video also features a bunch of adorable animals that should do the trick.

Speaking on the song, Barlow says he took his inspiration from an old saying.

“‘When You Know’ is a song about realizing you’re in love,” Barlow says. “The old saying ‘when you know, you know’ was in my mind with this one.”

Check it out below.

“When You Know” Lyrics

Sunshine, we don’t belong here
We got no flowers to grow
But it feels so good with you on me, baby
Yeah, it feels so good when you know
When you know

Make peace with your demons and hope that they leave you alone
Make peace with your feelings (sorry, taken!)
Admit there’s a reason you’re not letting go
We could fall right into nothing,
Open arms like we’re infinite
You’ve got nothing left to lose
When you’ve been crying all night

Sunshine, we don’t belong here
We got no flowers to grow
But it feels so good with you on me, baby
Yeah, it feels so good when you know
When you know

Break free
Oh no, not literally
Cuz you’ve got work at eight
And I’ve got friends who hate me
No, break free from all that makes you weak
And in that moment stay for forever and a day
Or three months in, I’m thinking about more than just the next week
Baby, you feeling me?

And when you know
You wanna bottle the feeling
Never let go
God, I hate when you’re leaving
It just feels so good when you want me baby
I’ll go where you go
Wherever you go

Neck Deep certainly aren’t the first to ask for fan help when making a video, New Found Glory recently invited die-hard fans to help them make a video. The 1975 also had a fan call for help with a music videoblink-182 just dropped their music video for “Happy Days” which is also made of fan submissions.

More Neck Deep

According to a statement from Neck Deep, All Distortions Are Intentional tells the story of a loner named Jett, who lives in a place dubbed Sonderland. Sonderland is a combination of “Wonderland” and the somewhat obscure word “sonder” – meaning the realization of random people living a life as complex as your own with their own ambitions.

“It’s that strange existential realization that you are not the entire world,” singer Ben Barlow explains. “Everyone around you feels and lives the same way that you do. You’re just an extra in their story.”

“In the timeline of ADAI this [“When You Know”] is where Jett realises, after a wild night out, and another night talking about how they see the world and realising they share similar feelings, that he is in love with Alice,” Barlow also reveals. “The mutual feeling of not belonging, the difficulties of their day to day lives and battling their inner insecurities, yet now having each other to ease the pain and giving a sense of purpose is the key take-away from this song. It’s a pretty straight up summer love song, but one that’s mega catchy and feel good – a stark contrast to some of the more emotionally heavy songs on the record.”

The new album arrives July 24 via Hopeless Records and can be pre-ordered here.
