Netflix introduces “random episode” button to select users

Deciding what to watch out on Netflix from the thousands of available options can often seem like a daunting task.

Now, the streaming service is testing a “random episode” button to take the stress off of picking a show.

The button was spotted by Android Police on the service’s app for Android users. It “offered to randomly select something to watch.” Also, in the playback controls, “there’s a shuffle icon with a ‘Random Episode’ label.”

Additionally, MacRumors noticed a feature on mobile that allows select users to “Play a Popular Episode” of certain shows.

In other news, Netflix might be buying its first-ever movie theater.

Deadline has reported that Netflix is “in preliminary talks” to purchase the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles. It is one of the U.S.’s oldest movie houses and was built in 1922.

Despite the service not owning a theater, they do have a relationship with theater chains. Those include Landmark and Ipic, which both show some of the service’s films.

Also, Netflix recently informed even more subscribers that a price increase was coming after they initially announced the increase in January.

Additionally, one of our favorite Netflix shows is the adaptation of My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way’s comic The Umbrella Academy. UA just passed a major milestone for viewership. Within the first four weeks of the show’s debut, it amassed about 45 million viewers.

To put that into perspective, similar popular titles like Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Our Planet only raked in up to 25 million households viewing each respective show. Netflix counts a “view” when someone watches about 70 percent of the show’s runtime.
