Netflix is somewhat of an elusive beast when it comes to its viewing metrics. These numbers help networks gauge what shows are doing well or failing. Things changed yesterday, as Netflix released its top ten most viewed original shows for the past year. Unsurprisingly, Stranger Things and The Umbrella Academy are the top two.
The data is from Oct. 2018 to last month. The list is rather varied in terms of genre. Check it out below.
- Stranger Things — 64 million views
- The Umbrella Academy — 45 million views
- La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) — 44 million views
- You — 40 million views
- Sex Education — 40 million views
- Our Planet — 33 million views
- Unbelievable— 32 million views
- Dead To Me — 30 million views
- When They See Us — 25 million views
- Elite – 20 million views
We already knew even before reading the info ourselves what would be number one. Nice to see The Umbrella Academy in there too though. Stranger Things crushed it however, beating The Umbrella Academy by nearly 20 million views.

Who knew we could be getting a season 4 teaser so soon?
Back in July, Matt and Ross Duffer, who are behind the series, dropped a few clues as to what comes next for the show, hinting that it might actually be leaving Hawkins, IN.
The brothers shared the information in an interview with Entertainment Weekly and talked about what it’s like mapping out the next season.
According to the brothers, the fourth season already feels “very different” from season three. They added that they will “open up a little bit” in terms of plot, which means we might be seeing a lot more than just the Hawkins pool and mall.
“I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.,” Matt said in the interview.
Now you know that Stranger Things is the most-watched Netflix original series, so if you haven’t watched season three yet, get after it.
