Netflix has lots of original movies planned for 2018

As if we didn’t already have enough to watch on Netflix, the streaming service is set to release around 80 original films next year. Its hope? To find as much success in the movie-side that its achieved on the TV-side of the service.

“They range anywhere from the million-dollar Sundance hit, all the way up to something on a much larger scale,” chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in an interview, as reported by Variety.

Netflix’s hope for 80 movies next year compares to the 50 that were released or scheduled to be released this year, which includes comedies, dramas, anime, action movies, foreign films and documentaries, Variety says.

Netflix previously shared that they’d likely to spend $7 billion for original content creation next year, and it could now be as much as $8 billion spent on content, Variety has shared.

It’ll be interesting to see how Netflix’s continued movie growth will affect the typical theater-going experience, when movies can be streamed rather than going to theater chains.

Earlier this month, Netflix announced that it’d be raising its prices in the U.S. starting in November, with a statement from the company saying that the price increases are adjusted to add more exclusive TV shows and movies.

“From time to time, Netflix plans and pricing are adjusted as we add more exclusive TV shows and movies, introduce new product features and improve the overall Netflix experience to help members find something great to watch even faster,” their statement reads.
