A new game in the 'Grand Theft Auto' series is being developed

Video Game players have kept 2013’s Grand Theft Auto 5 consistently popular since its massive release but it looks like we could be getting a new game in the series soon enough.

According to an investigation from Kotaku, Rockstar Games is investing in developing a follow up to the record-breaking game.

The Kotaku investigation was looking into the cultural changes happening at Rockstar around deadline pressures since a 2018 controversy revolving around working hours. While developing Red Dead Redemption 2, some employees reported working 100 hour work weeks to get the game completed.

The company has been working to improve their work conditions since then. Plans for a new Grand Theft Auto game show changes from the company that may ease stress on employees.

As Kotaku writes: “One plan that management has laid out for the next game, a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, is to start out with a moderately sized release (which, by Rockstar’s standards, would still be a large game) that is then expanded with regular updates over time, which may help mitigate stress and crunch.

IGN is similarly saying an anonymous source is confirming with them that a new game in the series is developing. It’s unclear whether this new title is going to GTA 6 or an unnamed spin-off.

Grand Theft Auto 5 went on to become a world record-breaking game and has sold over 120 million copies to date. It currently sits as the third best selling game of all time behind Tetris and Minecraft.

The game has set several world records. Some of those include best-selling video game in 24 hours, fastest entertainment property to gross $1 billion, fastest video game to gross $1 billion, highest revenue generated by an entertainment product in 24 hours and more.
