Paramore announce they’re back in the studio working on new album
The band has been hard at work, but Hayley Williams clarified they aren't making a "comeback 'emo' record."January 11, 2022
After years of fan anticipation, Paramore have revealed they’re finally back in the studio working on a full-length album. The record will be the follow-up to 2017’s After Laughter, making it their first new record in five years.
In November 2021, Hayley Williams teased Paramore’s 2022 return in a newsletter. Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, she explained that the band only started recording a couple months ago. The band completed their earliest writing sessions in Nashville before relocating to a studio in California to record.
“We go into the studio around 10 a.m. and leave around 7 or 8 p.m. like a bunch of dads,” she says. “I’ve been trying to get SZA to come hang with us ‘cause I want to be friends in real life but we leave the studio to eat and sleep and she’s still carpe-ing the diem.”
She also clarified that the band isn’t making a “comeback ‘emo‘ record.”
“The music we were first excited by wasn’t exactly the kind of music we went on to make,” Williams continues. “Our output has always been all over the place and with this project, it’s not that different. We’re still in the thick of it but some things have remained consistent from the start. 1) More emphasis back on the guitar, and 2) Zac should go as Animal as he wants with drum takes.”
