See more ‘The Umbrella Academy’ season 2 hints in a new poster

We’re just over a month out from the release of The Umbrella Academy season 2, and the Netflix series is still dropping hints. While the Gerard Way-penned comic-turned-series said it would be a bit longer until we get a trailer, the show did promise plenty of other treats along the way.

Just a few weeks after the release of some season 2 photos, The Umbrella Academy is teasing even more with a new poster.

In mid-June, Netflix revealed the official synopsis for season 2 alongside some new photos. The images and details behind the upcoming episodes gave more insight into where (and when) the Hargreeves ended up along with a slew of new characters both from the comic and brand new.

Now, the series is sharing another set of posters following what we saw back in February. Unlike the umbrella-obscured shots then, we’re getting a much clearer look at everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family.

“They’re back…in time,” the Netflix show tweets with a sunglasses emoji. “The Umbrella Academy returns July 31.”

The poster also introduces a new tagline: Same weird Family. New weird problems.”

The first thing that jumped out at many fans was the fact Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) is splattered with blood.

When questioned about, The Umbrella Academy slyly stated, “he uhhhhh got into something” and “we do not make five’s choices for him.”

Once moving past that, fans began dissecting the reflections in the characters’ sunglasses. Some tried to figure out the characters appearing including the woman in Diego’s sunglasses that some suspect is non-comic addition Lila played by Rita Arya.

Like anything cryptic on the internet, fans also started theorizing what it could all mean.

“Can we take a moment to look in the reflection of everyone’s glasses?,” Twitter user @catsrule505 writes. “I feel like the reflection either shows what they wish they had/want or what they had then lost. Idk but there is a reason for every little easter egg in these pictures.”

More on The Umbrella Academy

Season 1 encompassed much of Way and Gabriel Bá’s volume 1, Apocalypse Suite, and season 2 drops the Hargreeves off in the namesake of volume 2, Dallas.

In addition to tracking down the Hargreeves siblings in the 1960s, season 2 will usher in a new cast of characters. In September, we were introduced to three non-comic additions: Texas housewife Sissy (Marin Ireland), Lila (Ritu Arya) and Raymond (Yusuf Gatewood). The new synopsis also teases “a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins” portrayed by Tom Sinclair, Kris Holden-Ried and Jason Bryden.

In addition to Gallagher, Justin Min Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Robert Sheehan and Emmy Raver-Lampman are all returning.

All 10 episodes of season 2 hit Netflix on July 31. You can see the official synopsis below and new photos here.

Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right—the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which—spoiler alert!—turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.
