New David Bowie video and EP released to mark his 70th birthday

To commemorate what would have been David Bowie's 70th birthday, a four-track No Plan EP was released along with a music video for the EP's title track, “No Plan.”

The video gives a nod to Bowie's character in The Man Who Fell to Earth and Lazarus, as well as space travel—a theme prevalent in his music.

Alt Press got a glimpse into Bowie's writing and recording style during a 2001 interview with the performer. He told us, “I don’t think I ever resolve anything on my work. There are inevitably a series of questions in as much as anything else. And they try and capture an atmosphere that I’m living through to a certain extent.”

Bowie died Jan. 10 2016 after a long battle with cancer, but his legacy lives on. Many artists in our scene, including Gerard Way and Patrick Stump, credit Bowie for inspiring them.

In an interview with Alt Press about Bowie's death, Stump says, “As a fan, I expected Bowie to die in a laser bath on Mars, or something. Or perhaps he’d go out nose-first into a literal mountain of cocaine. I didn’t expect him to die of something normal people can die from; he felt like a fully transcendent character who would live forever. There’s a part of me somewhere inside going, 'I really thought he was an actual alien!'… It makes you think about your own mortality in a funny way, because it’s like, 'Oh wow, David Bowie can get cancer? That’s crazy.'”
