New ‘NickToons’ movie is all your ‘90s heart ever wanted

If this doesn’t make your ‘90s kid heart flutter, I’m not sure what will. Polygon has confirmed that NickToons, a movie mashup of all your favorite classic Nickelodeon cartoons, is currently in development. The movie, directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), will feature classics such as Rugrats, Rocko’s Modern Life and Ren And Stimpy.

NickToons is co-written by Jerusha Hess and will reportedly be similar to the style of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, a blend of cartoon and live-action.

This NickToons announcement comes after Nickelodeon began airing their ‘90s cartoons on TV again. Coupled with the Hey Arnold! movie that’s also currently in the works, the channel is taking a new interest in its nostalgic cartoon vault from 25 years ago—and we’re not mad about it.

“The project comes at a time when there is renewed interest in Nickelodeon's library of characters from the last 25 years,” a Paramount rep says to Polygon.
