Maynard James Keenan offers update on new Tool album
It's been 4,311 days since Tool released their last studio effort, 10,000 Days. And while vocalist Maynard James Keenan is finally releasing a new album with his other band A Perfect Circle this year, it looks like we may have another few thousand days to go before we hear a new Tool LP.

Keenan offered update to Tool's album-writing goings-on via Twitter on Saturday, revealing that the band's instrumental tracks for their long-awaited fifth album are, at last, reaching a final state. “Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago,” the singer wrote, “after 11 years of begging.” See the tweets below.
Tool bassist Justin Chancellor said the band were nearly finished with the album last summer, but that estimate apparently only referred to the group's demos sans Keenan's final vocals. Further, with the vocalist adding that they're “a long way from the finish line” and have yet to officially track the new jams in the studio, it appears that it may indeed be 10,000 days from 10,000 Days' 2006 release until we can wrap our ears and minds around new Tool material.
Regardless, Prophets Of Rage and Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello says what he's heard of the new Tool stuff is “epic, majestic, symphonic, brutal, beautiful, tribal, mysterious, deep, sexy and VERY Tool.”
Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks wont change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory. Still waiting for the FINAL on 1,

…but way ahead. Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1. Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20. #whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking #theresyourupdate #eattheelephant #aperfectcircle2018
