‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ gingerbread house is as rad as you’d think

The best part of The Nightmare Before Christmas, is well, everything. But specifically that the film has inspired others in their own art and beyond.

The latest bout of inspiration comes in the form of this badass gingerbread house constructed for a Christmas-appropriate contest.

SyFy Wire’s FANGRRLS’ are currently running a “Genrebread Contest” where they’re requesting “your best, weirdest, and genre-est celebrations of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror put into one delicious gingerbread display.”

A SyFy Wire writer, Tye, gave the contest a shot as inspired by her favorite film, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

“Because gingerbread houses are traditionally considered a Christmas project, I decided to do my take on Jack Skellington’s house at the end of the film when Santa makes it snow in Halloweentown and have fun imagining how he’d decorate his place for the occasion,” Tye writes.

She used a replica of Jack’s house as her reference photo, allowing her to get a good idea of all of the structure’s angles.

She used cardboard as a mockup before going full force with the gingerbread pieces, which you can see the step-by-step process of constructing here.

Check out the house below.

If you want to enter the gingerbread contest yourself, it runs through Dec. 28.

The rules include that the gingerbread creation must be 90 percent edible, “aside from any lights or minor decorative elements.”

You must use royal icing or sugar to assemble it, and dowels or artificial supports are prohibited.

Photos of your creation must be shared to Twitter or Instagram by tagging @SYFYFANGRRLS and hashtagging #FangrrlsGenrebreadContest.

Winners will receive a gift bag valued up to $200 with items from “geeky stores and vendors” including Fandango and Entertainment Earth. The winner will be announced on Twitter and Instagram Jan. 3.
