According to the band's website, the release takes an “unexpected left turn” from 2013's Hesitation Marks and sounds “unrecognizable” from Trent Reznor's recent film work with Atticus Ross.

“It's an unfriendly, fairly impenetrable record that we needed to make,” Reznor said in a statement on the site. “It's an EP because that ended up being the proper length to tell that story.”

According to Theprp.com, Nine Inch Nails gave fans who pre-ordered the new EP a special surprise by releasing it to them today, a day early.

In addition to the new EP, the band also announced that their 1999 album The Fragile was going to be repressed on vinyl. This limited edition record will feature 37 instrumental, alternate and unreleased tracks, many of which have never been heard before. You can order the vinyl repressing of The Fragile here.

Give the new track a listen below, and preorder Not The Actual Events here.
