Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor hints new music may still drop this year

Last December, industrial rock pioneers Nine Inch Nails hinted towards new music in 2016. And as the year comes to a close, without anything new to be seen, Rolling Stone did a little prying with frontman Trent Reznor, who said, “‘Just wait and see what happens.’”

In the interview with Reznor and Atticus Ross, who talked more about their recent work with award-winning film soundtracks, Reznor says that he's found it beneficial to balance both Nine Inch Nails projects, as well as his other work outside the band.

“Taking on a couple of things at the same time has been beneficial in a way because you're always reacting to something,” Reznor tells the magazine. “Working on these two films and Nine Inch Nails has provided some good checks and balances and makes them all more interesting. You can immerse yourself in a project knowing you'll be on the other side of the spectrum next week, depending on how well you can stay sane switching between jobs. For us, it's worked pretty good.”

And when asked about what to expect from new music, whenever it ends up being released, Reznor leaves the anticipation building.

“That will be part of the reveal,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I don't want to spoil it. If I'm interested in a film, I prefer not to watch the trailer. We live in overstimulated times.”

Last December, Reznor tweeted teasing new NIN music, along with “other stuff,” for 2016. While it has yet to be seen, the group still has 17 days until 2016 comes to a close.

NIN released their most recent studio album, Hesitation Marks, in 2013.
