Nirvana top vinyl single sales for Record Store Day

This year’s Record Store Day saw its most successful vinyl sales ever, which rose 58 percent over RSD 2013. Independent record stores saw a 91 percent increase in sales overall compared to the previous week. Record Store Day 2014 also helped independent stores have their highest weekly stake in physical album sales (around 19 percent) in Nielsen Soundscan’s 23-year history of record sales-tracking.

For the record (ha), Nirvana’s “Pennyroyal Tea” seven-inch claimed the highest position on Billboard’s top vinyl singles chart for the week, while Childish Gambino’s Because The Internet topped the vinyl LPs chart.
