The Oscars will air without a host for the first time in 30 years

The Academy Awards have had quite a difficult time trying to nail down a host for the Oscars. After Kevin Hart was quickly removed from the platform, it looks like the award ceremony will continue to push forward—without a host—for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Just last month, Hart stepped down from the role of Oscars host after old anti-LQBTQ remarks surfaced, leaving the award ceremony hostless.

While many believed The Academy Awards would search for a new host, it seems they have other plans.

For the second time in the award ceremony’s history, the show will move forward without a host for the event.

According to a new report, producers behind the show are looking to assemble some A-list celebrities to present the awards and team up for various segments throughout the course of the evening.

The last time they took this route was for the 61st Oscars in 1989, a ceremony that many consider to be the worst Oscars event in history.

“Why not give it a shot?” media consultant Brad Adgate had to say on the matter. “Things are so polarized anyway, any host that says anything will be analyzed to death. No host might be an experiment, and, let’s face it, the days of Bob Hope and Billy Crystal hosting are over.”

It’s definitely a risky move on The Academy’s part, but maybe it’s all part of their plan to increase viewers? Who knows.

Nominations for the Oscars are set to be revealed on January 22, with the 91st annual Oscars to take place on February 24.
