Ozzy Osbourne wanted original drummer on final Black Sabbath tour

Ozzy Osbourne is getting back in the swing of things after some unforeseen health complications, and while we can expect him to get back on the road soon, another Black Sabbath tour seems to be off the table.

The final Black Sabbath tour, which wrapped up two years ago, allegedly wasn’t what Osbourne had in mind when considering a reunion.

Osbourne revealed his distaste with the tour in a recent interview with Kerrang!, saying it just wasn’t the same without the band’s full original lineup. The band’s original drummer, Bill Ward, was left off the bill.

“I didn’t like the fact that Bill Ward wasn’t there, for a start,” Osbourne says. “People put that down to me, but it wasn’t me, honestly. We didn’t have the fucking time to hang around, we had to get going, but I’m sorry it didn’t work out with Bill.”

While Osbourne did give props to his touring drummer Tommy Clufetos, who filled in for Black Sabbath’s farewell run, he felt that finishing with the classic lineup would have have been more fitting.

“Tommy did great, but the four of us started this, and it should have been the four of us ending it,” he says. “Those final gigs in Birmingham were bittersweet because you think of how far we came, and how much we did, and it would have been good to have shared that together.

Despite the empty feeling of the tour, Osbourne did leave the door cracked for a possible final reunion.

“Maybe one day there’ll be one last gig, I don’t know.”

Even though we may not see Sabbath in the flesh ever again, Osbourne recently announced his upcoming return to the stage after canceling multiple dates due to his aforementioned health concerns.

The prince of darkness is playing the Hollywood Bowl on July 27, 2020. Ozzy’s final tour of North America is kicking off May 27 in Atlanta and concludes July 31 in Las Vegas.

The singer made the announcement on his Instagram page with an update on the tour happenings which you can see below.
