Palaye Royale host free acoustic show after abrupt gig cancellation—UPDATE

Palaye Royale are truly good to their fans. The Feb. 18 date of their The Bastards European tour at the Garage in Glasgow, U.K. was canceled for one reason or another. But, the band is greeting every fan and even performing a free acoustic show near the venue.

Palaye Royale took to Twitter to announce the news and that they are very disappointed they could not play the gig.

Palaye Royale are not just the superstars on the cover of issue 380 for AltPress, they are also the superstars in our hearts. The band has amassed a massive following not just due to their musical prowess and wild stage antics, but for their creativity and dedication to those that made them, their fans.

In their second cover story with AltPress, brothers Sebastian DanzigRemington Leith and Emerson Barrett detail how it’s all about the fans. Their dedication has pushed Palaye Royale to achieve a higher consciousness both in their art and their business. The Bastards, the band’s impending album, is part of that covenant. The band have created a world for fans to get lost in, for better or for hope.

“I realized how incredibly awful this world can be,” Barrett begins. “And if you don’t have inspiration or a sense of understanding—someone to extend their hand—it can make you feel lost. Some of these kids feel so accepted, and this band makes them want to be alive. When someone tells me they stayed on this Earth longer than they were going to because of something we’ve done, that’s more important than a hit song or making someone in a boardroom happy.”

This Glasgow, U.K. cancellation is just the next proof of Palaye Royale’s loyalty. The band took to Twitter to answer questions regarding the cancellation. According to Gigs In Scotland, the show was canceled due to being unable to reach an agreement that would threaten public safety.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Due to being unable to reach an agreement between the promoter and artist about the artist’s performance, tonight’s Palaye Royale show has been cancelled due to a potential risk to public safety. Refunds are available from point of purchase.

Fans immediately began wondering if Palaye Royale knew and they responded rapidly.

The show is cancelled due to someone behind a desk. Our hearts are broken. We set up, we came all this way; you the fans sold it out. Don’t know who held responsible but this is just ridiculous. We love you all, we are doing a free meet and greet/ acoustic show near the venue.

Also understanding that not all fans have social media or that some would arrive after doors or the meet and greet time, Palaye Royale said they would wait as long as it took.

The free acoustic show is happening right now in GMT time.

Footage can be seen below.

Palaye ended with a note that we’re all in this together.

Palaye Royale also confirmed that they would, in fact, be playing their Manchester, U.K. show on Feb. 19.

UPDATE: FEB. 18, 4:10 P.M. ET

Following their initial post announcing that their Glasgow show was canceled, the band have further elaborated on the reasoning behind it. “The truth. Glasgow our deepest apologies – the acoustic show was quite beautiful to say the least,” the band tweeted alongside screenshots of a longer statement.

In it, Palaye explains promoters requested they “tone down [their] performance,” asking Leith to avoid entering the crowd or balconies during the set. This move is common in Palaye’s set, but hasn’t been welcomed by every venue.

In January 2019, two separate instances regarding Leith entering the crowd during the band’s U.K. run sparked venue backlash. The first was at Venue Cymru in North Wales where the promoter stopped the show for “safety reasons” immediately after Leith entered the crowd.

Just under two weeks later, Leith was reportedly tackled by security while performing at Ironworks in Inverness, Scotland. The frontman again entered the crowd and was physically removed by security.

With the current show at the Garage, Palaye states they requested the “normal disclaimer” that releases the venue of responsibility for the band to perform the full scope of their show. After signing it and offering to allow the venue to hold their pay to ensure a safe environment, the band states their manager informed them that the venue had decided to cancel the gig with no further discussion.
