Emerson Barrett took to Instagram and YouTube to share Emerson Barrett and His Mind, a 10-minute long video about his own personal spirituality and thought-processes. The Palaye Royale drummer and pianist advises fans to watch the video in a quiet place to get its full effects.

To support Barret’s philosophies, the musician uses swinging, relaxing instrumentation, hand-drawn pictures and stunning visuals in the video. The video arrives at various points of an individual’s growth and then reaches a staggering climax of self-realization.

“The way we spend our time in this life will be the representation of not only ourselves but the culture in which we create,” Barret says in the post. “Every expression I make on the page is the subsequent entrance into my soul.”

“You must not try to connect the dots, but simply look through the pixels to the deeper meaning,” Barrett continues. “As human beings, we are aware that we face the prospect of vanishing forever. This is what causes some to strive for greatness. This is also what leads some into madness.”

Barrett recounts when he first started having his own “school of thought.” After realizing that typical schools sometimes only feed you enough information to follow the rules, they oftentimes don’t give you the tools to think for yourself.

“I enjoy being an open book to the world and to show my trials and tribulations,” he says. “One of my goals in this existence is to prove you only need to listen to yourself in order to find significance in this life. You are not bound to any parent, teacher, religious figure, friend or enemy. Your soul is infinite.”

(Link in bio) The way we spend our time in this life will be the representation of not only ourselves but the culture in which we create. Every expression I make on the page is the subsequent entrance into my soul. You must not try to connect the dots, but simply look through the pixels to the deeper meaning. As human beings we are aware that we face the prospect of vanishing forever. This is what causes some to strive for greatness. this is also what leads some into madness. I present an in-depth look and digital exhibition of my mind within the tormented, beautiful and often times overwhelming influx of ideas, philosophies and utopians empires. After dropping out of school at the age of 16, I disposed of the way that the educational system expresses to children to learn enough to follow rules, but not enough information to think for themselves. This is when my own school of though was conceived. I enjoy being an open book to the world and to show my trials and tribulations. One of my goals in this existence is to prove you only need to listen to yourself in order to find significance in this life. You are not bound to any parent, teacher, religious figure, friend or enemy. Your soul is infinite. Please find a quiet place to watch this video. Use headphones and disappear into the void. Allow yourself to float downstream past my subconscious dreams. Remember, pain is a sign of progression. You were put on earth to create heaven. Love the void.
