Paul McCartney oblivious to reuniting Nirvana for 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert

When news hit AP that Paul McCartney reunited the living members of Nirvana to play the 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit at Madison Square Garden, we were like, “What?”  Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear all together again. Cool, right?

Then, when we found out that the knighted Beatle was performing with them, we were like, “Hold on a second.”

Then, when AP stumbled across an interview McCartney did with the British Sun saying, basically, that his decision to “jam” with these three “mates,” who all so happened to have been in one of the most influential rock bands of this generation, was sheer coincidence, we were like, “Are you fucking kidding?”

McCartney said: “I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?' And somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”

Before you have a brain aneurysm imaging the 70-year-old Mcartney in a dirty flannel screaming, “Rape Me!” to a crowd of 20,000 people, let us go ahead and say that, apparently, the group won't be playing any Nirvana songs. Instead, they'll be premiering a new song the group's been working on.

Hold on to your knickers, New York.
