Pokémon announces limited-edition skateboards with fan-favorites

Pokémon has been capturing the hearts of children and adults alike since its conception in 1996. The games allowed for the player to capture and train up to 151 different pokémon, fulfilling creator Satoshi Tajiri’s dream. Pokémon exploded and now there are 807 different monsters and five new skateboards.

You read that right. Pokémon is officially partnered with Bear Walker, an iconic skateboard craftsman to launch an extremely limited line of hand-crafted skateboards.

The new skateboards were announced in a press release earlier in the week and are now on display for all you Pokémaniacs to check out. While the five different designs don’t include all of the first generation starters, they do feature some of the most iconic monsters to ignite the franchise.

Charizard, Gyrados, Pikachu, Gengar and Mewtwo are all featured. The boards go on sale Feb. 11 and you’re probably going to want to have those notifications on if you plan on snagging one of these. There are only 150 of each board so that’s 750 in total. That’s about the average student enrollment in most high schools.

Bear Walker spoke about the boards and about his love for Pokémon.

“Pokémon is highly recognizable with a massive fanbase in the skateboard community, including myself, so for this collection I wanted to make more than a traditional branded deck,” Bear Walker said. “I’m setting out to make functional works of art featuring Pokémon and iconography that fans love in the custom style my decks are known for.”

Bear Walker skateboards are already unique enough. Due to the way they are carved, the boards don’t require any grip tape to provide traction. All of Walker’s awesome boards can be checked out here.

But, it’s not just Walker benefiting from this deal. Cindy Ruppenthal, director of e-commerce at The Pokémon Company International spoke about the collection and what it means to them.

“PokemonCenter.com is on a mission to deliver new and unique ways for Pokémon fans to express their passion for the brand with premium merchandise and this collaboration with Bear Walker is the perfect way to continue delivering on this promise,” Ruppenthal says. “We couldn’t be more excited to show fans what Bear has planned for these Pokémon skateboards featuring his famous eye for meticulous craftsmanship and cutting-edge innovation.”
