‘Pokémon Go’ Fest returning this summer, despite last year's issues

Remember that time there was a Pokémon Go Fest?

If the answer was yes, you might recall that the festival didn't go exactly as planned, but the creators behind the app decided it was time for a redemption run of the festival.

Last year, the developers behind Pokémon Go, Niantic, decided to create a meetup for avid users of the app, only for the event to be classified by many as a total disaster. As Mashable points out, the users who went to the first-ever Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago had quite the time: long lines and connectivity issues to the Pokémon Go servers.

These issues ruined the entire festival for many, and some attendees decided to take matters into their own hands by filing a class action lawsuit against Niantic. As previously reported, the company had to settle the $1.6 million lawsuit with disppointed vistors who was out the cost of car rentals, airfare, hotels and other travel expenses.

While last year's event didn't end well, it appears that the company behind the festival is going to try to redeem themselves with a new Pokémon Go Fest.

Per a press release from the app, this year's event will be taking place in Chicago from July 14 to July 15. Under the name Pokémon GO Fest 2018: A Walk in the Park, the release shared that the forthcoming festival will offer “a unique, immersive play experience unseen anywhere else that will create a daylong adventure for Trainers.”

While the release didn't specify any of the issues from last year's event, it does appear that they are trying to learn from the past year's mistake. The new event will take place in Lincoln Park, a park that is significantly larger than the space that held 2017's festival, and with the larger space, we can only hope that the long lines and the connectivity issues will be solved.

In addition to the forthcoming festival, Pokemon trainers will still be able to participate in the event with a whole slew of activities and challenges. So, even if you aren't at the festival, you can still enjoy the event with your fellow trainers.
