The highly anticipated release for the Fantastic Beasts sequel is right around the corner, but it seems that author J.K. Rowling may have one more Harry Potter character surprise up her sleeve.

According to PopCulture.com, a younger version of our beloved Professor Minerva McGonagall will appear in the film!

The information was confirmed after Warner Bros. released the film’s cast list on Wednesday where Irish actress Fiona Glascott was listed for the role.

Glascott is best known for her appearances in projects like Brooklyn and the first Resident Evil movie. The actress has been listed for the film for some time now, but until recently, her role was unknown.

Mystery solved!

Well, kind of.

Fans familiar with the Wizarding World may recall one tiny hiccup with McGonagall’s inclusion in the film.

Per the official Harry Potter canon, McGonagall was born in 1935 and enrolled in Hogwarts in 1947. The original Fantastic Beasts film takes place in 1926 with the sequel being set to take place a few months after the original, meaning McGonagall shouldn’t even be born yet.

That leaves us with two possible scenarios for her appearance in the film. Either J.K. Rowling is re-writing history in order to include a character she feels needs to be in this film, or McGonagall will appear in some kind of flash-forward. Perhaps one of those post-credit scenes that may set her up as a future character in Fantastic Beasts 3?

We all know how Rowling feels about her HP Universe, so it seems like the second option is far more likely. While Glascott’s role as McGonagall may not be as significant as we’re hoping, we’re keeping our fingers crossed this means more McGonagall in the future!

Crimes Of Grindelwald hits theaters Friday, Nov. 16.

What do you think McGonagall’s role will be in the upcoming film? Sound off with those HP theories in the comments below!
