PUP become corporate criminals in new music video “Totally Fine”—watch

PUP have dropped another new single, “Totally Fine,” ahead of their new album, THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND. Appropriately, the release is backed by an absurd music video.

In the video, PUP (in this case, Stefaniel Bobcrat, Nelson Chesapeake, Slad “The Impaler” Sladkozlov and Zeke “The Freak” McLeary) announce they’re quitting DIY pop punk. They claim they’re not “selling out” but turn into smooth-talking corporate criminals in the process. At one point, they laugh over stacks of cash — just a minor portion of their 69 trillion — as they plot out their evil plans to buy Las Vegas and replace all churches with rehearsal spaces.

Predictably, the band are caught embezzling funds and go to trial. Note the special appearance of their defunct getaway car Mabu on the evidence board.

In the end, PUP plead their case expertly and are absolved of their criminal misdeeds. They even travel to outer space, which sounds about right. It’s a rather outrageous series of events, one that’s wholeheartedly PUP.

In a press release, the band explain that making “Totally Fine” cracked their creative dry spell.

“After three months of not writing any songs, ‘Totally Fine’ was the first thing to pop out,” PUP say. “It broke this creative dam wide open, just months’ worth of pent-up frustration all smashed into this one song. After that, we ended up going on a bit of a tear and wrote the rest of the record really quickly. The drumming on this song still blows our minds. It’s so manic and wild and makes the song feel like it’s about to fall apart at any moment, which is kinda like how it feels to be in PUP.”
