The film chronicles Queen from 1970 to their performance at Live Aid in 1985—six years before Mercury passed away from complications from AIDS, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Malek tells EW that while resembling Mercury adds a “level of confidence” to taking on such an iconic role, it’s the voice that he’s been working on most.

“We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible,” Malek tells EW. “I’m in Abbey Road [Studios] right now if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”

Malek explains that it’s more of a story honoring the musician, rather than focusing solely on the dark side of Freddie’s story—but the “dark Freddie story” will be honored.

Bohemian Rhapsody is due out Dec. 25, 2018, and its release was confirmed earlier this year.
