Rdio introduces new way for artists to monetize streaming music through fan engagement

Digital music service Rdio has introduced a new way for bands to monetize their music streaming through a new program called the Rdio Artist Program. By using Rdio to share their music, bands will recieve $10 for every new subscriber they bring in through their social sharing.

Rdio CEO Drew Larner had this to says the program “offers artists a way to supplement their existing revenue streams by doing what they do naturally– connecting with fans. We're aligning our focus on social music discovery with our fundamental belief that artists deserve to get paid for their work. We view it as a significant step forward for artists, fans and streaming music.” They already have massive stars like Snoop Dogg, Chromeo and Brendan Benson on board.
