Recess began airing in 1997 and had a total of six seasons before it ended in 2001. Davis is best-known for playing the sweet-souled giant Michael Blumberg. Mikey was a kind-hearted philosophical kid that was often dismissed by others for his compassionate world view. He had a beautiful singing voice that also made his character all that more talented.

Jason Davis was also known for roles in Beverly Hills Ninja with Chris Farley and Rush Hour with Jackie Chan and Chris Rock. He was a recurring guest on Roseanne and 7th Heaven.

The Recess star was very open about his struggles with addiction and even appeared on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew in 2010-2011. Jason Davis sought to help those that faced addiction as well by founding the charity Cure Addiction Now.

In a statement to the Hollywood Reporter, Davis’ mother Nancy Davis Rickel said this is the saddest news of her life.

“I am so heartbroken to share the saddest news of my life that my son Jason Davis passed away this morning in Los Angeles,” Nancy said. “Jason had a true heart of gold with such a zest for life. He was such a caring soul to everybody who ever knew him. He loved his friends and his family above all else. We ask for privacy as we take time to grieve this most devastating loss.”

Jason Davis was also the grandchild of known philanthropist Barbara Davis and former 20th Century Fox owner Marvin Davis.

As stated, the cause of death is still unknown. Jason Davis will be sorely missed, not just as an important actor in many childhoods, but as a caring human being who sought to aid those struggling with addiction.
