Record Store Day 2019 exclusives include MCR, Green Day, more

For the 12th year running, music fans obsessed with the vinyl format will pack up folding chairs, blankets and copious amount of energy drinks waiting in line in front of their local stores to get some sweet releases on Record Store Day.

This year’s exclusive limited-edition offerings include the first-ever vinyl version of The Black Parade Is Dead!, the 2008 live album from My Chemical Romance that was previously released only as a CD/DVD package. The double-vinyl set features three bonus tracks and (wait for it) a death certificate.

Woodstock 1994 is the recording of Green Day’s historic appearance at the 1994 Woodstock festival, with all the hits (“Longview,” “When I Come Around,” “Basket Case” and seven more) rendered in better sound than any of the clips you’ve watched on YouTube all these years.

On the underground tip, Hopeless Records will be issuing two records in the series Live From Maida Vale, named after the location of the historic British Broadcasting Company studios where bands come in and record live. The two releases include a 10-inch of the Wonder Years performing four tracks from their latest Sister Cities LP and a four-song, 12-inch LP by the Used. The latter finds the band covering Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Linkin Park’s “Shadow Of The Day.”

Red Bull Records will also be issuing a two-song seven-inch of Beartooth tracks (“Takeover”/“Messed Up”), recorded during sessions for 2018’s Disease LP.

Other things designed to make your ears swell with joy and lighten your wallet considerably include a reissue of Queen’s eternal “Bohemian Rhapsody” on a seven-inch single and historic live recordings of American punk godfathers the Ramones and Iggy Pop. There will also be a Foo Fighters three-inch single of “Big Me” and two vinyl releases from Weezer, (the recent Teal covers album and a B-sides collection, Dusty Gems And Raw Nuggets).

The coolest thing, hands down, is “Candy Cane Child,” a White Stripes single that’s three-inches round and comes with its very own player. It comes in a Third Man Records blind-box package that will contain one of four TMR  three-inch singles and a collectible poster. Those of you fond of action figures and toys know the deal about blind boxes: You don’t know what you’re gonna get until you open the box.

Record Store Day kicks off April 13. The complete 2019 list can be found here with participating record stores here. If you’re a real record-collecting masochist, the British list (featuring a lot of things you’ll pay even more for on eBay April 14) is right here.
