'Riverdale' creator teases a stressful summer for one group in upcoming season
The Southside Serpents can’t seem to catch a break, and it looks to only get worse in Riverdale‘s highly anticipated third season.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been posting snippets of what to expect for the show’s third season, and yesterday (Aug. 19,) the show’s creator teased us further with two new photos.
First, the showrunner teased us with a picture of Moose Mason (Cody Kearsley) looking at Kevin Keller (Casey Cott) as the duo catch up on some much-needed summertime reading.
Next, Aguirre-Sacasa shared a photo that features our favorite gang in the small little town, the Southside Serpents.
The snapshot is of Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Sweet Pea (Jordan Connor) and Fangs Fogarty (Drew Ray Tanner) strolling through some sort of make-shift camp.
The caption for the picture featuring the Serpents is a little more menacing than the one of Moose and Kevin as the showrunner teased:
“Relaxing summer? Not for the Southside Serpents… Find out why in the season premiere of #Riverdale in 52 days…”
While we’re not entirely sure what this means for the Serpents, we do know that they’re going to be in a “rebuilding” period in the show’s third season.
Skeet Ulrich, who plays FP Jones in the show, recently sat with US Weekly where he shared that the future of the Serpents are at a “redefining” point.
“The Serpents are sort of redefining themselves and trying to get their footing to figure out the next steps. There becomes a core mystery to the season that involves parents and children alike. It’s packed full already. We’re three episodes in. That’s definitely quite dramatic.”
The future of the Serpents isn’t all we know about the show’s third season.
It was recently reported that the show will feature a parents flashback episode, which means we’ll get a little more insight on what the parents of Riverdale were like when they were younger.
Additionally, it was announced that the show’s main characters will be playing the younger versions of their parents (and we can’t wait.)
We also know that Choni shippers are going to be very happy this season. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently took to Twitter to share a sneak peek photo of Madelaine Petsch and Vanessa Morgan (who play Cheryl Blossom and Toni Topaz respectively) dressed up in their characters outfits for season three.
“#Choni fans, a gorgeous preview of coming attractions, #Riverdale Ep. 303, courtesy of Cherry Bombshell…” the showrunner tweeted.
Then, a teaser trailer posted a few weeks ago, things in the small town are about to get intense. We’re not sure what trouble will follow the teens of the small town, but we can’t wait to find out.
The CW recently dropped the premiere dates of all of our fave shows, and we were beyond excited to see Riverdale is returning to the network this October!
The first episode of Season 3 will air on Wednesday, October 10 at 8 p.m. and we’re already counting down the days until the show comes back.
