Late Riverdale actor Luke Perry is set to be honored in a special way during the season 4 tribute, the show revealed at San Diego Comic-Con.

As previously reported, Perry passed away unexpectedly after suffering a major stroke back in February.

At the end of April, Riverdale aired the episode containing the final scene with Fred Andrews, who was played by Perry.

Then, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed that the series would be addressing Perry’s death in season 4.

“We knew we had to honor Luke and address Luke’s death on the show,” Aguirre-Sacasa tells ET. “When Luke had passed, we had already pretty much plotted out the end of this season and written the end of this season. Rather than try to squeeze something in and potentially not get it right, we thought let’s take a beat and let’s figure out really what would be the best way to honor Luke and to honor the character of Fred, and let’s do it at the top of season four.”

He also adds, “Luckily, Molly [Ringwald] was already slated to come, so we kind of just reflected and wanted to give ourselves the time to do those things right.

Now, the CW has revealed that on October 9 there will be a “Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam” episode that will be in honor of Perry.

“This year our Riverdale family, and we’re are family, and we suffered a huge huge loss,”  Aguirre-Sacasa said at Comic-Con. They also played a tribute at the event.

In the episode, Perry’s Beverly Hills 90210 castmate Shannen Doherty will appear in a role that has yet to be announced.

Aguirre-Sacasa did say that prior to Perry’s passing, they had previously discussed introducing Doherty into the series.

The show also revealed that since Perry’s passing, Archie’s mom Mary (Ringwald) will step up. She will be a bigger presence in her son’s life.

Perry’s final Riverdale appearance came in season 3 episode 19 where he has a heart-to-heart conversation with his son Archie, played by KJ Apa.
